Pedestrian killed in Houghton Lake truck accident

HOUGHTON LAKE – A Harrison man died while walking on Meade Road Nov. 17, according to a statement from the Michigan State Police (MSP).

On Sunday, November 17, 2024, at approximately troopers from the Houghton Lake Post were dispatched to a report of a man lying in the roadway on Mead Road near the US-127 overpass in Lake Township about 5:43 p.m.

Troopers arrived on scene and located a 54-year-old Harrison man, lying deceased in the roadway.

A  preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle had recently struck the man, who had been walking westbound on the shoulder of Mead Road, and then left the scene.

Shortly after initiating the investigation, troopers witnessed the driver of a pickup truck pull up to the scene.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, it
was believed the driver of the pickup truck is the person who struck the pedestrian.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 66-year-old man from Houghton Lake, was cooperative with law enforcement and consented to a voluntary blood-draw at an area hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lake Township Fire Department and Gerrish Township Police Department.
