Alpena resident arrested for alleged Domestic Violence

ALPENA COUNTY- Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post and deputies from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched early April to a report of an alleged domestic assault involving a weapon at a residence on Hubbard Lake Road in Hubbard Lake.

Both parties involved called 911 to report the incident. The suspect, 33-year-old Shane Michael Karl, was at the residence when officers arrived. The victim had fled to a neighbor’s home and called 911. The victim stated he and Karl had gotten into an argument and during the argument, Karl pointed a handgun at his head and threatened to shoot him. Troopers recovered the handgun from the living room.

Karl was placed under arrest and lodged in the Alpena County Jail.

Karl was arraigned in the 88th District Court in Alpena County on one count Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, one count Felony Firearms, and one count Domestic Violence. His bond was set at $2,500 10% cash surety.

His next scheduled court appearance is on May 1 at 2:30 p.m.
