Train hits snowmobile in St. Helen

ST. HELEN – The Richfield Township Department of Public Safety (RTDPS) reported a snowmobile-train accident last night.

According to a statement from the department, on Jan.  12 about 8:36 p.m.

At approximately 20:36 this evening, RTDPS responded to a train vs. snowmobile incident.

The statement said, “Fortunately, the rider was off the snowmobile assisting a stuck machine on the tracks at the time of the incident. We transported one individual to the hospital in stable condition.”

“Please use extreme caution and be aware of your surroundings.”

According to the Federal Railroad Administration, there were 57 train-vehicle accidents in 2022.
