Little Traverse Literary Guild establishes scholarship

REGION– Toward its mission to develop and support a community of writers, the Little Traverse Literary Guild is pleased to announce the creation of the Little Traverse Literary Guild Scholarship. To encourage and support young writers, the Guild recently established the scholarship fund at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. Available to receive applications beginning in early 2024, the Guild’s scholarship will support graduating high school students interested in a career in writing, from journalism to technical writing to creative writing.

Founding members of the Little Traverse Literary Guild include Glen Young, Dylan Taylor, Val Meyerson, Jane Millar, and Tom Renkes, and are joined by new member Lisa Leavy.

“Students interested in a career in writing are among the most curious students I worked with. They are also among the most empathetic,” said Glen Young, retired educator. “For nearly 30 years, I have encouraged students to consider careers in writing.”

As college tuition continues to skyrocket, the Guild hopes to offset these growing expenses with this renewable annual $1,500 scholarship. Graduating high school students from any public school in the Char-Em Intermediate School District who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, or community college are eligible to apply.

Scholarship applications for the 2024-25 academic year will open in mid-January 2024. To learn more about this or other scholarships or the application process, please contact Jake Myers, Community Philanthropy Officer at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation at scholarships@phsacf.org or call (231) 348-5820.
