Petoskey man dies in tractor accident

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY –  A 73-year-old man died after being run over by his tractor in Charlevoix County.

According to a statement from the Michigan State Police, on May 11 troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded to a farm in Melrose Township, located i  Charlevoix County for an unresponsive male.

When troopers arrived, they observed the male on the ground with numerous injuries and an International tractor with a John Deere planter crashed into the woods approximately 200 yards away.

Based on the investigation, the male was identified as 73-year-old, James Sterly, from Petoskey.

Troopers observed numerous tools and a step stool near his body. It is believed that he was attempting to start the machine when he was run over by the tractor.
