EMMET COUNTY – On Wednesday afternoon, October 26, 2022, at approximately 2:27 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles on US-31 near Manvel Road in Bear Creek Township.
The initial investigation indicates a 2012 Audi driven by a 50-year-old Petoskey man was northbound on US-31 and in the turn lane to make a left into Ace Hardware. A southbound 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by 77-year-old Harold Dean Reynolds from Afton crossed into the turn lane. The northbound Audi was unable to avoid the southbound Impala and they collided head-on. Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Audi was taken to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Emmet County EMS, deputies from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, and officers from Petoskey Public Safety Department.
