Hale Area Schools to seek millage

Dear Hale Community,

During the past few months, Hale Area Schools have been reviewing facilities and infrastructure. With the assistance of an architect, the district completed a Needs Assessment. This assessment allowed us to examine projects that should be addressed in the upcoming years.

This review displayed the outstanding job our district has done to maintain its facilities over time. Our school building first opened to students for the 1999-2000 school year, and since that time thousands of staff and students have traveled the halls. With that kind of natural wear and tear, there are issues that should be addressed in the near future as determined by our Needs Assessment.

At our Board of Education meeting on April 15th, our Board of Education has placed a proposal on the ballot asking voters to consider a sinking fund millage for five years at a rate of 2 mills per year. This election will be held on Tuesday, August, 6th, 2024.

If approved, the sinking fund could be used for purchase of real estate, the construction or repair of school buildings, for school security improvements, or for the acquisition or upgrading of technology, and for school buses.

Soon I will be setting up community meetings to discuss in detail the projects we would accomplish with this funding. As well, I will be asking any local group who wishes for

me and/or a school representative to come to their meeting and explain the projects and answer any questions.

Educationally Yours,

Jeffrey J. Yorke, Superintendent
