GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY – On Thursday, April 7, 2022, at approximately 1:37 pm Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) 7th District Hometown Security Team responded to a two-vehicle injury crash near the intersection of Garfield Rd and Mayfield Rd in Paradise Township. Initial investigation revealed a 39-year-old Traverse City woman was traveling northbound on Garfield Rd when she crossed over the center line and into oncoming traffic. One vehicle traveling southbound on Garfield Road was able to swerve into the ditch to avoid the vehicle. A second vehicle also traveling southbound on Garfield Rd could not avoid the vehicle and was struck head-on by the 39-year-old female. The 39-year-old female was transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for treatment of her injuries from the crash. Initial on scene investigation showed alcohol to be a factor in the crash and the 39-year-old female was almost five times over the legal limit.
The at-fault driver was admitted into the hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The two occupants of the struck vehicle, a 60-year-old Grand Rapids man and 23-year-old Grandville man, were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released the same day.
A report is being provided to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
