Antrim County Deputy injured in traffic crash

ANTRIM COUNTY – Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post were called to investigate a traffic crash that occurred in Antrim County. On Thursday, April 7, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m. a deputy from the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a traffic crash on US-131 near Dorr Road in Chestonia Township. The deputy and driver of the other vehicle involved were transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for non-life-threatening injuries. US-131 was shut down for several hours while troopers investigated the crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates the deputy was making a U-turn when a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 63-year-old Holland man struck the driver side of the patrol vehicle. Troopers located marijuana and open alcohol containers inside the passenger compartment of the pickup truck. Speed, drugs and or alcohol are believed to be a factor in the crash.

Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office, officers from Mancelona Police Department and Bellaire Police Department as well as multiple EMS and Fire personnel.
