Trooper injured in accident

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY – An unidentified trooper was injured when his patrol car was struck about 4 p.m. on April 20.

The trooper, from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Grand Traverse County at the intersection of Hammond and Garfield.

The trooper was responding to a separate vehicle accident near Chums Corners. The patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens were activated.
The initial investigation shows the trooper had stopped at a traffic signal and was beginning to edge forward after traffic stopped for him. Another driver, who was unable to see the patrol vehicle due to the stopped traffic, proceeded through the intersection and struck the patrol car, which sustained heavy damage. The vehicle that struck the patrol vehicle overturned.

The trooper was transported to Munson Hospital as a precaution. Occupants of the other vehicle refused medical treatment at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
