Operation Lifesaver has joined forces

GRAYLING – The Michigan State Police (MSP), Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and Grayling City Police Department teamed up with Lake State Railway in Operation Lifesaver.  Operation Lifesaver is an annual initiative focusing on railroad crossing violations and snowmobile enforcement of riding in the railroad right of way.  Lake State Railway provided a locomotive marked with two MSP shields.  An MSP Trooper and DNR Conservation Officer were on board to witness and call out violations to waiting patrol cars and DNR snowmobiles conducting traffic stops.  The enforcement train traveled north from Grayling into Gaylord and then back south.  During the detail three cars were cited for running the crossing while the train was approaching, and seven snowmobiles were ticketed for riding within the right of way.  A total of 16 verbal warnings were issued for other non-railroad violations.
