Congratulations to F/Lt. John Grimshaw

ALPENA –  The Michigan State Police (MSP) is proud to announce F/Lt. John Grimshaw graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy.

Two hundred and fifty-eight law enforcement officers graduated from the 278th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on December 20, 2019.  The class consisted of men and women from 49 states and the District of Columbia.  The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 37 countries, four military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 11 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training.  Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend.  A total of 52,540 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935.

F/Lt. Grimshaw stated the networking the academy offered was invaluable.  Meeting with law enforcement professionals from all over the world offered new insight in leading police officers and best practices to address the challenges they face.  He learned the challenges law enforcement officers face in the Unites States were similar to those in other countries.  The students were able to share experiences and solutions to common issues.  F/Lt. Grimshaw was honored to represent the MSP at the National Academy and is ready to apply what he has learned.

F/Lt. Grimshaw is from Novi and graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.  He was hired by MSP in 1994 and is a graduate the 110th Trooper Recruit School.  He has been the post commander at the Alpena Post since 2015.
