Houghton Lake teens roll car while skipping class

HOUGHTON LAKE – Houghton Lake troopers responded to the area of Sargent Road and
Nolan Road in Nester Township Oct. 15 at approximately 9 a.m. for a single vehicle rollover crash.

According to a statement by the Michigan State Police, upon arrival, troopers made contact with two 16-year-old males who advised they were the occupants of
the vehicle.They had decided to skip school and to hang out with friends in Gladwin County.

On the way
to their friends’ home they swerved to miss a deer causing the rollover.
An eyewitness at the scene stated she observed the vehicle traveling approximately 70-mph when it
attempted to maneuver a 30-mph curve.


The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for careless
driving, minor in possession of alcohol, and improper display of registration. Both teens were released at
the scene to guardians.
