Construction set for US-31 in Petoskey

PETOSKEY – While contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) resume paving on US-31 in Petoskey next week, the Lewis Street intersection will be closed to traffic.

Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 18, paving will resume on the western lanes of US-31 and will take about a week to complete. During that time, Lewis Street and the parking lot will still be open to local traffic, but Lewis Street will not be open at US-31. This work and the schedule are weather-dependent.

One lane of US-31 will remain open in each direction during this paving work. Access to driveways and intersections will be accommodated at all times.

This work is part of an $11.2 million project to reconstruct about 1.3 miles of US-31 in the city of Petoskey from the Mitchell Street  Bridge to Fairview Avenue. The work includes realigning a portion of the highway away from the bluff area between Winter Park Lane and Fairview Avenue, construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements, sanitary sewer and watermain replacement, and traffic signal upgrades.
