M-18 detour for culvert replacement starts Sept. 3

PRUDENVILLE – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced that M-18 will be detoured for a culvert replacement starting on Sept. 3. The project is expected to be completed on Oct. 11.

The project will require a detour for M-18 through-traffic between I-75 and M-55. Traffic will be detoured on I-75 and M-55 to replace the culvert over Backus Creek north of Prudenville. The project includes reconstructing the culvert approaches and replacing guardrail, curb and gutter.

The project will cost $1.2 million and will “ ensure the structural integrity of this crossing for all traffic,” according to an Aug. 23 announcement by MDOT.
