Steel beam ceremony finalizes construction on MidMichigan emergency departmen

WEST BRANCH  – More than 30 employees, board members at construction workers at MidMichigan Medical Center – West Branch braved the weather this morning to watch a beam signed by employees earlier in the week hoisted in the air to find its resting place in the ceiling of the maintenance room in the new Emergency Department at the Medical Center.

In true topping-off tradition the beam was adorned with an America flag and an evergreen tree signifying the life and growth of the structure and good luck for the future. The beam represents the more than 160 tons of structural steel used to frame the 17,505 square foot new structure set to open in late spring.

The new ED will feature 20 private patient treatment rooms, including two large trauma rooms, isolation rooms, onsite radiology and a design that improves operational flow, efficiency and the delivery of care.

Patient privacy, comfort and convenience were priorities in the innovative design. Representatives from multiple ancillary service lines, ED staff nurses and physicians were involved in the design along with Emergency Department design experts, Huddy HealthCare Solutions. Services in the Medical Center’s existing Emergency Department remain uninterrupted during construction.
