‘Books for lunch’ – Amanda Barratt

WEST BRANCH – Bestselling author Amanda Barratt fell in love with writing in grade school when she wrote her first story, based on a Jane Eyre novel.

“I’m Amanda,” Barratt said. “Tea drinker, story-spinner, and servant of my Savior. I write romantic, historical novels and novellas and my goal is to immerse readers in another time and place, give them characters to fall in love with, and draw them deeper into their walk with Christ.”

Barratt gave a presentation at the West Branch Public Library “Books for lunch’ program on Nov. 20.

Born in Cadillac, her family moved to West Branch when she was 12 years-old. By the time she was 15, Barratt was writing professionally.

In eighth grade Barratt signed up for an advance creative writing course offered at Kirtland Community College in Roscommon. Her first college assignment was a three-part journal that turned into a six-chapter serial.

“I was hooked on writing from then on,” she said.

Amanda gave credit to her family for their support. Her mom, Chris, encouraged her love of reading and writing, most recently sitting to watch a WWII documentary with her, on which Barratt will base a June 2019 novel.

A few of Barratt’s most popular titles include Seven Brides for Seven Texas Rangers, The Most Eligible Bachelor Romance Collection, and My Heart Belongs in Niagara Falls New York
