ROSCOMMON – Roscommon Post #96 of the Michigan American Legion is proud to announce for our third year we are working hard with local volunteers and service groups to ensure that all veterans laid to rest at Gerrish Township Cemetery are honored this December on National Wreaths Across America Day. This year, the ceremony, held simultaneously across the country at more than 1,200 locations, will be on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. The goal: to place a live, balsam fir wreath at the headstone of every veteran buried there and spread patriotism and commemoration for the ultimate sacrifices they made for our country.
Last year the Post sponsored the laying of wreaths at the South Branch Township Pioneer cemetery along with the Roscommon Village Cemetery, Gerrish Township Cemetery, Markey Township Crestview Cemetery and Lyon Township Oakwood Cemetery. This year’s ceremony will start at 11 a.m. at the Gerrish Township Cemetery and sponsorship forms are now available at all township offices and at the Roscommon Village office.
The goal for the above locations is to raise enough funds to place remembrance wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there, to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration. The mission of Wreaths Across America Day is to Remember, Honor, Teach. Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve and their families. Teach the future generations about the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms. In 2017, over 1,204,000 wreaths were placed at 1,440 locations nationwide.

This year’s deadline for ordering wreaths is Monday, Nov. 26. Individuals and/or families may also order wreaths to be placed on other locations and/or love one graves and will be notify when the wreaths are available for pick up (usually the week of Dec. 15). Wreaths may also be provided “In Honor of:” and/or “In Memory of:”
Individual sponsorships of one wreath ($15), Family of four wreaths ($60), Small Business of 10 wreaths ($150) and Corporate of 100 wreaths ($1,500) are available.
