Foundation announces $15,000 in grants

WEST BRANCH – The North Central Michigan Community Foundation (NCMCF) recently awarded 17 new grants totaling $15,450 to local nonprofits for programs and projects benefiting residents of Crawford, Ogemaw and Oscoda Counties.

  • Crawford County Community Christian Help Center received $1,000 to support its supplemental meal program for summer 2019;
  • The City of Rose City received $1,000 for its 2019 All Ages Summer Recreation program;
  • The Human Trafficking Community Group was awarded $1,000 to support “Walk for Freedom,” an awareness campaign for human trafficking;
  • Praxis Church in Fairview received $1,000 to implement the “Oscoda County Reads” program, which will allow Oscoda County children to participate in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, receiving monthly books through age 5;
  • Roscommon-Crawford Foster Closet was awarded $1,000 to support its Adopt a Child program;
  • Mt. Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church was awarded $1,000 to purchase food for its community food distribution program;
  • West Branch-Rose City Schools received $1,000 for Project “Safe Talk”, a suicide awareness and prevention program;
  • His Love Family Resources was awarded $1,000 for its Christmas Shop program;
  • Ogemaw County Humane Society received $1,000 to purchase exterior fence slats at the animal shelter;
  • Tolfree Foundation received $1,000 for its “A Bit Fit” program;
  • Crawford-AuSable Day Care, Inc. was awarded $750 to purchase new seating for its facility;
  • Crawford Roscommon-Child Protection Council received $750 for a car seat safety program;
  • Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church was awarded $750 to support the restoration of the church’s bell tower;
  • Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan was awarded $2,200 to support families from Crawford, Ogemaw and Oscoda Counties who must utilize the organization’s services while relatives receive medical care in Grand Rapids;
  • Rose City Lupton Festival and Events received $1,000 to purchase an Expression Swing.

NCMCF Community Impact Grants come from the Crawford County Community Needs Endowment Fund, the Ogemaw County Community Needs Endowment Fund, Oscoda County Community Needs Endowment Fund and the Monnie Orr Memorial Fund.

Funding for some health-related grants also comes from the Crawford, Ogemaw and Oscoda Tobacco Settlement Funds, as well as the Ogemaw County Health Care Initiative Fund and the Oscoda County Health Care Initiative Fund.
