ROSE CITY – On Sept 4, 2018 a young man’s dream came together. But it wasn’t easy.
Takoda Barnum got the designation he worked so hard for, a “Centennial Farm” and sign for the Barnum “Diamond B” Farm in Ogemaw County’s Logan Township.
Takoda’s Great-grandfather Thompson H. Barnum purchased the 80 acre farm from D. Eugene Tolfree on July 15, 1910. Thompson and his wife Rose raised eight children, along with cows, corn and wheat over the years, including hemp for rope and during WWII.
In the mid 1960’s the property was given to their son Gus who raised milk cows and he milked them the hard way – by hand.
Around 2000, Takoda, his father, mother and uncle were deeded the property. Takoda has hopes of slowly bringing this farm back to its glory. He plans to raise goats and a few pigs to start with, but eventually adding some Angus cattle.
