REGION – The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has extended the public comment period to Dec. 3 for a request by Nestle Corporation in Evart to have a significant increase in the amount of groundwater they are currently allowed to withdraw.
According to a study by Golder Associates developed for Nestle in July,
“MDEQ approved and registered an additional increased withdrawal capacity of150 GPM (Gallons per minute) from production well PW-101, for a total withdrawal capacity of 400 GPM.M DEQ determined in its site specific review pursuant to MCL 324.32706c that there will be no individual or cumulative adverse resourceimpacts resulting from the proposed withdrawal.”
Due to the fact these withdrawals remove water from the watershed, it could have a detrimental effect on the Great Lakes Ecosystem. If you are interested in submitting a comment, visit
