GLADWIN – The Knights of Columbus are proud to announce that Joel Vernier has been chosen as the Knight of the Year for 2015/2016.
Vernier is a feature writer and columnist for the Crawford County Voice and Roscommon County Voice.
Vernier has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for about 15 years. He is past Grand Knight, a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and is board director for Sacred Heart Mission.
Gordon Clayton, Grand Knight of Gladwin Council 5280, wrote that: ‘Joel is a multitalented person who uses his skills in many ways to promote our council. He is our ‘go to guy’ on advertising at both the local level and on the Internet.
‘He maintains contact with our priest regarding anything he would like our help to accomplish, and many community groups and organizations as well. He is also a very effective public speaker, and is also a cantor with a great voice.’
Clayton added that, ‘Joel is well respected in the council for his good advice on how to handle problems and how to take advantage of opportunities. He has been instrumental in achieving new ways to increase the use of our hall GǪ (and) the level of spiritually in council meetings and activities.
Vernier said he is honored to be selected.
‘It’ great when people can give recognition to others who are just trying to make things better,’ Vernier said. ‘And a whole lot of other people who were deserving of this because everyone works hard.’
