ROSCOMMON COUNTY– The Roscommon County Community Foundation’s Rapid Response Fund is helping fight rising food insecurity by strengthening local food programs when support is needed most.
Through a $31,603 grant, RCCF helped MidMichigan Community Health Services Food Program expand staffing and add critical infrastructure including refrigeration, shelving, tracking software, and food distribution supplies allowing the program to operate at full capacity.
Since September, the program has grown from serving 136 families to more than 402 families each month, reaching nearly 1,000 individuals. During the recent ice storm, MidMichigan remained the only food pantry open in the area, providing food, warmth, charging stations, and support for residents impacted by outages.
Operating five days a week, the food program now serves double its original capacity while also supporting 24 local nonprofits through regional food partnerships.
“This is exactly what RCCF’s Rapid Response Fund was built to do,” said Executive Director Suzanne Luck. “We are committed to ensuring local organizations have the tools and resources needed to serve our community during difficult times.”
