New church launched in St. Helen

ST. HELEN – Pastor Robert and Michele Amor moved to St. Helen in September 2016 to enjoy the small town charm and peaceful atmosphere of Northern Michigan. They love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, camping, hunting and all the beautiful local lakes. But in the midst of the abundant beauty, they sensed a spiritual need in their community.

Robert works as a home remodeling contractor, but is also an ordained Christian minister, a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. Michele graduated with a degree in Christian Ministry from North Central University.

The duo have served in many churches in various roles through the years, including pastoring, teaching, and music ministries. Most recently, they have been performing outdoor summer music concerts in local parks, including Iron’ Park in West Branch and South Higgins Lake State Park. They performed 22 concerts last summer called Praise in the Park with upbeat Christian praise music accompanied by Michele on keyboard and Robert on guitar.

Their focus now is on developing a vibrant local church that features both uplifting praise music and practical Bible teaching. Northwoods Bible Church will function as an independent local church without denominational connections.

Robert describes their inspiration for starting this new church: ‘Over the past year and a half, we’ve made many friends here and the one thing that impresses us the most is people’ love of nature and all the recreational opportunities of the area. But we’ve also noticed that many folks here are disconnected from the God of creation.’

Michele added, ‘We read in the Bible that Jesus saw the multitudes and had compassion on them. So many in his day’and ours’are like sheep without a shepherd. Our goal is to reach out to our community as caring Christian shepherds to lead them to the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ.’

Northwoods Bible Church is designed to be a joyful and caring environment where people can be inspired to grow closer to the Lord. Sunday morning services begin on March 11 from 10-11 a.m. at the St. Helen Community Center. Good Friday Service is scheduled for March 30 at noon. Casual dress is welcome.
