Retirees again award $1,500 to local teachers.

ROSCOMMON – Six teachers were recently selected to receive $1,500 in grants from the Roscommon Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (RARSP).

The RARSP grant committee met October 25 to review the ten applications for the 2017-18 RARSP grants of $250 each. According to committee members, the proposed projects were varied and showed dedication on the part of the teachers for their students’ and classroom success.

The six recipients this year were Jillian Kettlewell, Roscommon Elementary School; Tina Collins, Roscommon High School; Jill Trahan, Houghton Lake Elementary School; Sharon Taboada, Houghton Lake Community Education; Lyssa York, Roscommon Elementary School and Theresa McMunigal, Houghton Lake Community Education.

The six recipients will be the guest speakers at the July, 2018, meeting of RARSP when they will explain and demonstrate how their grants were put to use in their classrooms.

RARSP members use a portion of their local dues to support these grants in the hope they can make a meaningful difference in the classrooms in Roscommon County.

We appreciate all those who applied, and we regret that we could not award all applications.
