WEST BRANCH- Local restaurant The Bossy Cow BBQ Smokehouse will be hosting a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in late September.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on September 26th. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owner Susan Wangler about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
The Wanglers purchased the restaurant in June 2019, remodeling it in three weeks, and reopening from the former “hole-in-the-wall bar” that it had been into a nicer, family-friendly restaurant. They changed the restaurant’s name to The Bossy Cow as a nod to an affectionate nickname Susan had at a previous job.
The Wanglers have had to overcome numerous obstacles in life, including serious health concerns and also being shut down during the pandemic. They have remained committed to ensuring their restaurant is top notch. During the pandemic they offered outdoor dining in Amish-built huts, after the plastic igloos they had collapsed in the harsh Michigan winters. Customers begged for takeout options, a rarity in the small town they were in, and the Wanglers complied.
“I do unique things. I’m not your standard barbecue like everyone else,” Susan states. “We’re going to make sure that we succeed, no matter what.”
The menu offers barbecue favorites, burgers, and Mexican specialties. The brisket philly and the mac and cheese with brisket are top sellers.
The Bossy Cow won the Visionary Award from the West Branch Chamber of Commerce in 2021.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Tues. Sept. 28 from 8 – 11 a.m. EST. The press is invited to attend.
