GRAYLING – The new board of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) met recently to elect new officers.

Region Captain Ted Calabrese said that May was motorcycle month, but the group aims to bring awareness to motorcycles all year. The local ABATE group includes Gaylord, Grayling, Houghton Lake and Lake City.

“We’re looking for new memberships to join us. Our goal is to make everyone aware of our upcoming season,” Ted said. “We’re discussing safe riding and awareness, upcoming riding events in our area and charity rides, events and freedom rides to places like Lansing.”

ABATE is also holding a Motorcycle Awareness raffle with a total of $18,000 in cash prizes. Tickets are $10. Drawing is set for Oct. 3. Winners need not be present to win.

Chapter 23 of ABATE meets the first Sunday of the month at 1 p.m. at Dead Bear Brewing in Grayling.
