Larson donates to elementary pantry

GRAYLING – The Grayling Elementary School (GES) Resource Center/Food Pantry received a generous donation in memory of Jane Larson.

Donations included 12 pairs of boys and girls boots, 20 coats for boys and girls, 24 backpacks filled with school supplies for little kids and 24 backpacks filled with school supplies for big kids along with $100 worth of socks and underwear. Donations came from across the United States.

Mrs. Larson taught 1st grade at GES for nearly a quarter century. She is survived by her husband Jerry Larson, and her two daughters Angela Larson Trager and Chris Dandy.

Gina Brunskill, Lead Principal of Grayling Elementary School, commented, “We are so blessed by our educators; even beyond this life. Thank you, Mrs. Larson.”

Nurse Samantha Rogers said the donations will go a long way in helping the students and families of GES.

“The truth is, many in our community struggle to pay their bills, let alone put food on the table or purchase winter gear. It is with great appreciation that we thank the Larson family for thinking of our kids in memory of their mother and wife” Rogers added. According to kidscount.org, nearly 23 percent of children ages 0-8 receive assistance from SNAP. Approximately the same percentage live below the poverty line.

The GES Resource Center/Food Pantry works to provide families with food as well as cleaning supplies, hygiene products, clothing, laundromat vouchers, and any other necessity. The center is located within Grayling Elementary School. Families who have students attending GES, NEMSCA Head Start or Grayling Cooperative Preschool GSRP are encouraged to utilize this resource.
