Megan Smith receives Otto and Martha Krauss Scholarship

Grayling – A nursing student at Kirtland Community College, Megan Smith of St. Helens was selected for the Otto and Martha Krauss Health Sciences Scholarship this fall through the Kirtland Foundation.

In addition to studying nursing and being an honors student, Smith also runs on the women’s cross-country team, which recently won first place at the Kirtland Invitational Meet. She says, “To have this scholarship, it keeps me from adding student loans onto my education, and allows me to be with my children instead of working evenings and weekends.”

The Otto and Martha Krauss Honors Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 by Dr. and Mrs. Krauss of Higgins Lake and Sarasota, Florida to provide recognition and financial support for outstanding students enrolled in the Kirtland Honors Program. The scholarship fund is now supported by Frederick and Virginia Krauss, who wish to continue the scholarship in their parents’ memory.

The additional Otto and Martha Krauss Honors Scholarship recipients this fall were: Isabella Sieman (Gaylord), Nichole Huck (Roscommon), and Ariane Hawkins (Gaylord).
