MIO — The AuSable Valley Engine and Tractor Club will celebrate the history of farming and rural life during its 21st annual AuSable Valley Engine & Tractor Show.

The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, at the Oscoda County Fairgrounds, located 1889 Caldwell Road, between Mio and Fairview.

The two-day event will feature antique tractors, engines, farm machinery and demonstrations showing how equipment was used on farms and in rural communities.

A “Parade of Power” will begin at 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A members-only tractor pull for “bragging rights” will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.

Working demonstrations will include a sawmill, a thresher threshing wheat and baling straw, cutting and branding wooden shingles, and a team making wooden crates. Homemade ice cream also will be made during the show.

Children’s activities will include sawdust pits, scavenger hunts, pedal tractor pulls, rolling hoops, birdhouse building and tractor history bingo. A water sponge fight will feature a friendly John Deere versus Farmall competition.

Children also may experience an hourlong class in the fairgrounds’ one-room schoolhouse.

Mark Radisovich of Mio will handle lunch during the event. Mio Social will offer smoothies and refreshers.

The AuSable Valley Engine and Tractor Club brings together people who share an appreciation for farming history, country life, antique tractors, engines and farm machinery. Members work to preserve older equipment and demonstrate the tools, skills and traditions used by earlier generations.

The club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month from January through October at Clinton Township Hall in Comins. New members and people interested in antique machinery are welcome.
