Q: What’s your “day job” in 10 words or less?
A: Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator for Michigan Works! Region 7B.

Q: What pulled you into the work you do now?
A: I have always cared deeply about community and economic development, so when a job opened up doing workforce and economic development in Arenac County in 2019, I applied – and I am so happy that I did, because I got the job! On March 4, I will have been with Michigan Works! Region 7B for 7 years. I have since moved into the Public Relations and Marketing role. Michigan Works! Region 7B is a great employer, and I love all the things that we do across our six-county service area of Arenac, Clare, Gladwin, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon counties.

Q: Tell us about your family.
A: I am mom to four adult children, and have been blessed with grandkids.

Q: What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

A: I get extremely woozy at even the thought of blood, needles, or any sort of medical procedure, situation, or even TV shows that are too realistic. Even well-written details can make me swoon. I definitely won’t win any awards for being anyone’s Most Competent Companion for medical visits either.

Q: What’s the most “Northern Michigan/Small-town” moment you’ve had?

A: It’s not a moment so much as a sentiment. In a big town, you might go out and see everyone you know. In a small town, you might go out and know everyone you see. That difference – that connection – is what makes small town moments so golden.

Q: Coffee or tea? (And where’s your go-to place?)

It used to be both, but as I get older, I find myself sticking to herbal tea more often. I like to make my own teas. Right now, I am on a hibiscus kick – just dried hibiscus flower and hot water. I never know what my next kick will be, but I assure you, there will be a next kick.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you were ever given—and by who?

A: I have no idea who originally said this to me at this point in life, but I have heard it many times – it goes something like this: “You can’t control another person’s actions, but you can control your reaction.” That’s great advice. I like to take that moment before reacting to what someone says or does and think, “How exactly do I want to respond here?” and then respond accordingly.
