Camp Grayling Range Report

GRAYLING AREA – Each week, the “Camp Grayling Range Report” is published on UpNorthVoice.com to keep the public informed about military training activity and related updates in the region.

Range Activity:
All roads and trails are expected to remain open this week, with the exception of the 40 Complex near the Air-to-Ground Range. The Air-to-Ground Gunnery Range near Waters will be active Monday through Thursday with the iconic A-10 aircraft. Water operations will take place on Lake Margrethe, conducted by the DNR from Monday through Wednesday. For clarification on gate closures, please contact Camp Grayling Headquarters at 989-344-6100.

  • South Camp (small arms ranges): Located west of Lake Margrethe and east of the pipeline, along Howe, Murphy, and Daniels Roads.

  • 13 Complex & Light Demo Ranges 20-21 (mortars and demolition): Situated at the south end of Beaver Road in Crawford County and west of Engineer Valley in Kalkaska County.

  • 30 Complex: A fenced training area bordered by N. Down River Road, Stephan Bridge Road, Bucks E-W Truck Trail, and the Tank Trail that runs parallel to Jones Lake Road. Road closures in this area are based on the type and size of weapons being used.

Temporary Non-Dudded Impact Areas:

  • Small Fan/Surface Danger Zone: Includes the 30 Complex fenced area and all surrounding roads and trails within the surface danger zone gate fan, bordered by Stephan Bridge Road, Dyer Truck Trail, Wakeley Bridge Road, and an unnamed trail located approximately 3 km south and parallel to County Highway 612.

  • Large Fan/Surface Danger Zone: Includes the small fan area plus all roads and trails bounded by Wakeley Bridge Road, extending east one mile to the intersection of N. Down River Road and Bald Hill Truck Trail. It continues north to an unnamed county trail approximately 4 km south of the Village of Lovells, then turns west and runs parallel to County Highway 612, returning to Wakeley Bridge Road.
