Supply Drive donations provide a feeling of home

REGION- Harvest Food and Supply Drive donations help nourish, comfort, and provide a feeling of home for women and their family members who have come to the Safe Home seeking refuge from domestic abuse and sexual assault. It is one of the most important ways community members can support survivors in northern Michigan.

Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) operates the Safe Home 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. It is a place where families in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego counties can find a secure, supportive, and caring place to stay as they regain control of their lives.

Last year, the Safe Home provided more than 2,170 nights of shelter and 6,500 meals at no cost to the individuals and families utilizing this vital service.

“During the Harvest Food and Supply Drive, we are asking the community for gift card donations, financial contributions, and nonperishable items to support individuals and families as they navigate toward a more hopeful future,” said Safe Home Coordinator Penny Hills.

According to Hills, gift card donations and financial contributions are the most helpful because they provide Safe Home staff the flexibility to buy exactly what families need as the need arises.

How to Contribute:

  • Gift Cards: Donations of gift cards can be delivered or mailed to WRCNM at 423 Porter Street, Petoskey, MI 49770.
  • Financial Contributions: Make online donations at wrcnm.org/give, by calling WRCNM’s main office at (231) 347-0067, or by sending a donation by mail.
  • Nonperishable Donations: Drop off nonperishable items at the main office located at 423 Porter Street or at the agency’s two Gold Mine Resale Shops in Petoskey. A Safe Home needs list is available online at wrcnm.org.

To learn more, or to arrange for a pick-up of items, call Safe Home Coordinator Penny Hills at (231) 347-0082.
