Thunder Bay Theatre 5K Run returns April 29

Alpena MI – After a three-year hiatus, Thunder Bay Theatre is excited to announce the return of their annual Break a Leg 5K Run/ Walk. With the help of the Dork Brothers Racing Team, the race will take place on Sat. Apr. 29, beginning at 9 a.m.

The race route will take place along the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Trail around the Thunder Bay River. Participants can check in and enjoy light refreshments before and after the race at JJ’s Ember Room, located at 119 W. Fletcher St. “The race is a great way to get out and support Thunder Bay Theatre,” said Board Member Lisa Larkin. “We are encouraging people to have some fun with it and come out in their best theatrical garb or dress as their favorite theatre character.

In addition to awards for best times overall, we will also be giving awards for Best Costume for kids and adults.” This year, awards will be given for: Top 5 Finishers Overall, Worst Time Overall, Best Costume- Adults, Best Costume- Kids, and Worst Costume Overall. Early bird registration is $10 for adults and $5 for students and must be completed by Apr. 14. After that, registration raises for $15 for adults and $10 for students. Race t-shirts made locally by True North Threads are also available for purchase up until April 14 for $20 and can be picked up on race day.

Thunder Bay Theatre has been closed since 2020 after a fire damaged their building located at 400 N. Second Ave. Since then, the organization has been raising funds and planning the renovation of their building, with construction slated to begin this summer. All funds raised through the Break a Leg 5K will go towards the theater’s reopening efforts and expenses.
