PETOSKEY – Zonta Club of Petoskey is delighted to name Faith Bailey, Petoskey High School, as the 2022 recipient of the Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship.
A senior at PHS, Faith plans to attend Wheaton College, majoring in either nursing or applied health sciences, with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. She will also play volleyball for their collegiate team. “Looking to the future,” states Faith, “I would love to join with international organizations to provide healthcare specifically for women in every place and walk of life.”
Beyond the classroom, Faith is involved with many different clubs and organizations, including Varsity volleyball and the National Honor Society. She worked with the Salvation Army during the COVID-19 pandemic to hand out meals to the homebound, and has spent time at Independence Village getting to know the women there and help them with technology and social media.
“I am so incredibly grateful to the Zonta Club of Petoskey,” states Faith. “This scholarship with help propel me into my education and future at Wheaton. Zonta has a rich history of helping women reach their full potential and I am so honored Zonta chose me for this scholarship to help continue and further this mission. Again, I’m so thankful for the Zonta Club and all the wonderful people involved in this organization.”
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Faith will receive a $1,000 grant from the Zonta Club of Petoskey and then be recommended for a district/region award. One recipient per district receives a district/region award of $1,000 and their application is submitted to be considered for an International Award. Ten district/region award recipients receive an additional $4,000 International Award.
Zonta Club of Petoskey was chartered in 1971 and is one of 35 clubs in the state of Michigan. Their members participate in service projects that support the mission of Zonta: to advance the status of women worldwide. More than $400,000 has been donated to local organizations since the club’s charter. Zonta Club of Petoskey meets on the first and third Thursdays at noon at City Park Grill.
Zonta International, with world headquarters in Oak Brook, IL, USA, is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International. The Award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation YWPA Award fund.
