It’s scholarship season! Deadline Mar. 2 to apply

Roscommon County Community Foundation

NORTHEAST MICHIGAN – High school graduation will soon be upon us and for many graduates it will mean taking the next step educationally.

As we all know, paying for the next step of an education can be costly and one way to help with the cost can come in the form of a scholarship. The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) is a great resource for students in the area.

The RCCF awards tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships each year. In 2019, RCCF was able to award $146,435.00 in scholarships. RCCF oversees more than two dozen scholarships that are available to youth in the county.

Graduating seniors from Charlton Heston Academy, Houghton Lake Community Schools, Immanuel Christian School and Roscommon Area Public Schools can – and should – apply for scholarships available through RCCF. The applications are available at the RCCF website, MyRCCF.org. The deadline is March 2 at 3 p.m.

We encourage students and parents to visit the RCCF website and read about the many scholarships that are offered.

The North Central Michigan Community Foundation (NCMCF) is also accepting applications for its 2020 competitive scholarship program. Current and former graduates of high schools in Crawford, Ogemaw and Oscoda Counties are invited to apply.

Many of the scholarship opportunities available through NCMCF depend upon the high school from which a student is graduating, the college they plan to attend, or their planned field of study. Additionally, some scholarships are for students who have already graduated from high school, and for those planning to attend a certificate program or trade school. To be eligible, students must complete the application by the March 1, 2020 deadline.

All scholarships must be applied for directly through the Community Foundation’s online platform. Students applying for awards will complete one online application and will be considered for any scholarship for which they are eligible.

New scholarships, or scholarships being awarded for the first time this year include:

  • Arthur E. and D. Jane Short Memorial Scholarship – for graduating seniors of Ogemaw Heights High School;
  • Clarice L. Sperry Scholarship – for graduating seniors of Ogemaw Heights High School; and
  • Sheriff Kirk Alan Wakefield Memorial Scholarship – for Crawford County graduates (including homeschoolers) who will study in the Criminal Justice Program at Kirtland Community College or the Kirtland Regional Police Academy for the law enforcement program.

Students from the NCMCF service area should visit ncmcf.org and look for a green piggy bank image to apply for scholarships from their region.
