‘Night of Hope’ – with your help!

RELAY FOR LIFE "Relay Re-Do" continuation

WEST BRANCH – This is a continuation of our Relay For Life of Ogemaw County event – a kind of “Relay Re-Do” of sorts…..something that has never needed to be done since the event started in Ogemaw County in 1996….but due to the threatening thunder, lightning and rainstorms that occurred and were predicted to continue on Saturday, July 20, the original event was cut short at 4:30 p.m. for the safety of the attendees.

However, our energetic teams, generous sponsors,  and the community who gathered together to help fight cancer are not quitters….and those dedicated people want to finish this fight by completing the Relay For Life event and we want to invite you all back to join us.

The event will be resumed on Friday, September 20 at 6 p.m. and will continue through 10 p.m. along the paths at beautiful Irons Park on South Valley Street in West Branch.

relay for life

6 p.m. – Kick it off with a tasty Chili Cook-Off event from area restaurants  – Join us to sample and vote for the best in Ogemaw County right there in Irons Park!

6 – 8 p.m. – Visit the Luminaria Sales Table and make your own luminaria bags for the special Luminaria Ceremony beginning at dusk, or give us the names you would like to include and we will make the bags for you.  This fundraiser is a major part of our effort each year to fight cancer and is one of the most popular and memorable events.  For only $10 per Luminaria bag, you can honor or remember each of those special to you during this event.

6 – 8 p.m. – Childrens games and activities of many types will keep everyone entertained.

6 – 8 p.m. – Visit team tents or tables to learn more about this event, and our other community events, such as our Halloween Fun Run event on Saturday, October 20 at the Tolfree Wellness Park next to Mid Michigan Medical Center – West Branch.  Come dressed for the season, or just comfortably, and join the fun for this second year event.  You can even dress up your dogs and bring them along for the fun.

7 p.m. – First Ever Dessert Auction!!!  Tasty treats you don’t have to make yourself, but can take home to family, to potlucks, or to work to impress your co-workers!

Corporate and Individual Sponsor Recognition – Help us thank our very special sponsors of the event during special laps and presentations.  Without our many sponsors, the American Cancer Society could not fund groundbreaking research.  We are the largest, private, non-profit funder of cancer research.  We also could not provide answers and support through our 24 hour/7 day per week toll free hotline – 800-ACS-2345, or our state of the art website at www.cancer.org

Cancer Action Network –  Learn about the way we fight cancer through policies working with our lawmakers to make the world a healthier place to live, and giving each member a voice.

Dusk – Luminaria Ceremony – join us for this highlight of the evening.  The walking path will be lined with white luminaria bags filled with glow lights, which are made In Honor of those Survivors of cancer, and In Memory of those who fought and lost the battle with this disease.  Make your own or we can help you at our Luminaria Sales Table.
