Toys for Tots benefits local children

WEST BRANCH – Sometimes we need to show the joy, love and hope of Christmas by sharing our good fortune with families in need. Shannon Wiley, Coordinator of Marine Corp Toys for Tots in Ogemaw County has a goal to help all children that sign-up from newborn to 13 years old!

“Any toy donation is welcome,” Wiley said.

Children in Ogemaw County are depending on the generosity of people just like you to donate a toy. Wiley, a volunteer, has completed a three day training course to become the new Marine Corp Toys for Tots coordinator in Ogemaw County. After all the procedures are in place, reviewed and adjusted we will be able to accept cash donations. Until then Wiley can take cash donations directly. However, the easiest way to donate is go to Marine Corp Toys for Tots Facebook page at or website as follows:

In addition, two “Stuff the Blue Goose” events have been scheduled for November 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Northland Area Credit Union next to old Kmart and on December 4th from noon to 5 p.m. in front of Wal-Mart. If you don’t know what to buy; Wiley suggests purchasing gifts you would buy for your own children or grandchildren.

“Popular toys such as: Paw Patrol; learning and educational toys are always beneficial and, of course, dolls,” Wiley said.

Families can sign up at the West Branch Department of Human Services until December 7. One hundred percent of donations stay in Ogemaw County. All it will take is for everyone reading this article to donate one gift for a child under 13 years old. Wiley and Trooper Noble are ready to receive and distribute toys to children in Ogemaw County.
