Coleman Lions celebrate 78 years of service with dinner and auction

COLEMAN – Coleman Lions celebrated 78 years of service to the community by holding their Charter Night Dinner and Auction party October 27, 2018. District Governor Al Roeseler, also a Coleman Lions member, welcomed everyone, including many Lions from around the state.

The Coleman volunteer Fire Department was honored this year. President Chuck Dinsmore presented “Heart of the Lion” awards to Fire Chief Bill Cozat, Captain Kyle Shelby and Lieutenant Don Haske. A framed certificate was also presented to be hung at the Fire Station.

Coleman Lions Club wants to thank the many businesses and individuals who donated to the fundraiser. Pleasant Meijer, New Dimensions Hair Salon, Pizza Man’s, Rick’s Body Shop, Sanford Hardware, Dr. Alan Scott OD, Schumacher Insurance, Scoops, Stitches For Britches, Sherry Swan, Coleman Subway and Tigner Printing.

The money raised will allow them to continue supporting community needs, as well as donating to organizations they support such as Leader Dogs for the Blind, PAWS with a Cause and Eversight Michigan.

Around 100 people attended the fun event at the Coleman VFW Hall where the silent auctions, bucket draw and live auction allowed many guests to take home prizes. There were also several special games and prizes. The Heads & Tail game (cash) was won by Allen Beckett of Wisconsin. The 50/50 winner was Bill Cozat. Gretchen Clarke won the Hundred Square game and took home the beautiful “Layer Cake” quilt made by Coleman Lions member Esther Gordon.

A kayak was won by Mary Herkner of Sanford who purchased the winning key in the “Open the Door” game! A rifle was won by Bill Brugger. And the big prize, a Carbon Express X-Force Cross Bow and case was won by Sid Render.

Guests enjoyed a delicious Swiss steak and chicken dinner prepared by Jenny’s Catering of Shepherd. Colt Johnson, auctioneer, was assisted by Micca and Rebecca Crampton. Our thanks to CHS student Kierra Bunker for serving popcorn and selling pop to guests during the party. A special thanks to all who attended the 10th Annual Charter Night Party
