Camel Races held in Houghton Lake

HOUGHTON LAKE – Camel Races were held Oct. 13 at the Prudenville Columbus Hall. Hosted by the Houghton Lake Rotary and Kiwanis groups, the event was well attended. Camels were decorated by various organizations, and ‘raced’ down a table track, moving forward a space if their number was drawn. “Housey”, Midge & Co.’s horse, was the overall winner.

Taking your bets for the races were Sharon Snyder, Ted Straubel, Jeannie Ludwig and Joe Ludwig.

Numbered balls were pulled from a sack. When the camel’s number was chosen, they moved up a space.
