The early morning sounds of the clock radio reverberated throughout the bedroom. Thus, it signaled that another workday was just beginning. While preparing to leave, the sore muscles reminded him of yesterday’s strenuous work. Quietly, so as to not awaken his children, he left.

This similar scene played out as the days turned into weeks, months, and years. This daily grind could be very unfulfilling. For some, this enduring of pain, stress, and fatigue was an everyday occurrence, while for others it may have given them a source of fulfillment.

The demands of his job also have a tremendous impact on time spent with his children. That is why when precious moments arise to spend quality time with his family, he embraces it. This is demonstrated by prioritizing and attending special events, milestones, walks, and one-on-one discussions. It is during these moments where honest, heartfelt discussions occur and guidance may be offered when appropriate.

As stated above, these sacrifices are not easy. So, why would a person subject themselves to such physical and emotional challenges? The answer is simple: to ensure that their loved ones have a better life.

All of the pain, struggle, and constraints of his job are far outweighed by the cherished time spent with his children. These special moments have helped to mold character, and have left an indelible impact on their lives. What greater gift to give? These unselfish and unconditional acts make him (Dad) a true hero.

So, on Father’s Day, spend time with Dad and have that heartfelt conversation explaining how much you appreciate all of his sacrifices. To all fathers, both living and deceased, God bless all of you.
