October is upon us!

In my mind, October ushers in true fall in Michigan. I get it that September has the first day of fall, cider mills are open, and we do have some chill in the air in the mornings and evenings. Even some leaves begin to run colors and fall to the ground, so Mother Nature teases us that fall is coming. This year, September was a bit warmer than usual; we almost made it to October without putting the heat on. In fact, we turned on the hit one night when the temperatures went down to the 30s.

October is special to me in many ways. God’s artistic beauty is shared with us as the trees; they turn into glorious eye candy for brief periods! Timing out the peak viewing times and drives to enjoy them is a talent needed worthy of the fastest Quantum Computer, the sharpest savant, or the most reliable psychic! The meteorologist informs us about the progression toward peak fall colors; however, an unforecasted wind or rainstorm can cause peak colors to disappear in a matter of hours. You then are left with the promise of eye candy turned into an eyesore of the former glory. There is always next year to plan for.

Cider Mills: You can visit the cider mill in September, and at 80 degrees, the cold apple cider tastes excellent, but I prefer to visit them on a cold crisp day in October. The kind that you need to wear is a near winter coat, hat, and gloves. Biting into a hot cinnamon donut that warms your whole body instantly with an autumn glow! The cold apple cider strikingly cools down your mouth, and the combination leaves you with a fantastic glow! Cider & Donuts, Peanut butter & Jelly, Soup & Sandwich, the list of combinations.

Napping in October; If I have not taken care of this, it’s time to swap out the summer throws and bring in the fall blankies and even a winter one or two just in case they are needed. I love keeping the house at 66 degrees to save money and require a warm throw blanket to snuggle in. REM sleep happens faster in cooler temps!

Football in October! I enjoy going to the games when the most popular drink at the food stand is Hot coffee! Everything tastes great, hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, and more. The cold weather makes coffee, no matter what kind or brand, taste like delicious ambrosia as long as it’s hot. Be careful not to burn your mouth trying to drink it down too quickly! I like to bring a cushion to sit on as the wood, metal, or vinyl is too hard and feels harder when it is cold.

October is one of my favorite 12 months of the year! My family celebrates our Birthdays in October! 2nd, 3rd, and 14th! Fun month, with the kickoff of the Holiday season not far behind!
