As I snuggled into my “Comfy Chair” getting ready to enter my mid-afternoon nap, after about 10 minutes I realized something unbelievable! The absolute, unnerving fact that for the first time in my entire life I was not sleepy!
Not only was I not sleepy, I was sitting there embraced in my light summer throw, my head on the pillow like part of the chair and I was wide awake! In fact I was not only wide awake I was “Wired!” The energy was shooting through my body like mini shock waves!
Not only was I unable to take a nap, but I was sitting there moving my toes back and forth! I was, figuratively speaking, “Bouncing off the walls”! This never happens to me!
I jumped up and began looking at what I had consumed today that might have been so stimulating!
I did have coffee for breakfast, yes three mugs! For a snack I consumed a protein bar. I grabbed a fresh one out of the cupboard and was surprised to learn it had caffeine in it! I washed it down with a diet Mountain Dew! Wow that had lots of caffeine! I had a cold so I took an epinephrine and caffeine combination and that pumped me up! At lunch I had fudge ice cream covered with chocolate coated coffee beans, both had caffeine in them.
I sat down to pay the minimums on my monthly bills and I took an energy drink to keep me focused! I finished off my bills, and celebrated with a Diet Coke to wash down some chocolate fudge! I started adding up the caffeine and it seems I over did it! Wow I was CAFFEINATED!
I was a wide awake “Caf-fiend!’ I was jumpy, agitated, impatient and ready to bite someone’s head off!
What counteracts caffeine? Adult beverages, nope too early, reading a book, nope to hyper! What about a nice strolling walk? Yep, that’s what I decided today, walk it off like an old football injury, shake it off like a kick in the shins!
Then I noticed it was time for my nap to be over, I shook my head and went to the kitchen. Nothing a carbo loaded lunch would not do to make get ready for my next nap! After my lasagna, garlic bread and a lemon sherbet, I hustled back to my nap station ready to leap into REM sleep, and it did it again, I laid down wide awake! I put on the television to the 24 hour news channel and within 5 minutes, I was fast asleep. Gotta love the news!
Every day is a gift, some are more fun to open than others!
