GPA News letter

GRAYLING – Hello – its winter. Really winter. We’ve had it all.  Snow, sleet, hail, freezing rain, just plain rain, and…a couple of nice days!

Is that Michigan – Yes, it is! We got thru Christmas without any really bad weather and the roads were good for traveling.  Now – you just have to pick your day.

GPA only meets every other week from January thru March.  We also have a rule that when there is no school on Tuesdays – there’s no GPA. That saves a lot of phone calling to tell our members if there is or isn’t going to be a meeting.  We started that about two years ago and it works!

The opposite weeks when we don’t have a meeting, we have what we call a “Fun Lunch”. Our good member Rose Mathaney oversees choosing the place and we use our Shop Grayling First cards to help pay for our lunch. Our first one this year was at the Frederic Inn where we had wonderful baby burritos.

Our GPA Pictionary Committee has just had our first meeting.  MAY 1! Mark it on the calendar.

Can you imagine. We’ve been getting together and being a little crazy for the evening for – counting this year – 33 years.  OK – you’re puzzled.  Its PICTIONARY!

If you have never played you’ve missed a good time.  We have had up to 25 teams competing.  Some teams dress up – some don’t.  The ones that do dress up compete for a cash prize. And, there are also trophies. First, Second, Third and “Haven’t Got a Clue”

We’ll be sending out invitations to the business places around town – but anyone can get a team together. There are some forms to fill out – so get in touch with a GPA member and she’ll see that you get what you need.

A team is comprised of four people and cost $10 each. Give yourself a fun name and come to the Eagles and have a great evening.  Think about how you can dress up to look like whatever your name inspires.  We haven’t decided on what “good cause” we’ll collect for this year – but we’ll be letting you know soon.  Right now – think about getting a team together and who would be fun to be with for a Pictionary evening.

But – before that – on March 6 – the Chamber of Commerce is having their big event of the year. This is when they hand out their awards – Like Citizen of the Year – and Business of the Year.  It will still be at Kirtland Community College as it has been for the last few years.

The theme is Havana Nights -so start thinking about how you can dress to go along with that theme.  Its always a good evening.

Well – that’s about all for this month.  It’s the ‘let down’ after all the Christmas activities.  Hope you are all doing well – got the tree down and the décor put away.   Time to enjoy your evenings together – whether its you and the dog – you and your best friend – you and your family.  It’s all good.
