“Nothing To Watch On TV? “

On occasion, I find it difficult to fall asleep on one of my midday naps! When that happens, I turn to my tried and true method, it must be time to watch television! I find having the television set tuned (Millennials may need to look that up) to an old movie, series, sport, or even news can allow me to drift off to sleep land. I turn the set on and the volume down and soon I am napping. It’s a good thing because naps are very important to my life style! And with the new technology, I can nap anywhere, to a nap friendly television show.

In today’s world you can watch stuff almost anywhere on any of several devices. You can watch stuff on a Television, Kindle, Nook, Computer, iPad, Tablet, and Virtual Reality Headsets, even on a Watch! And it’s a good thing, because there is enough shows out there that you could not watch them all in multiple lifetimes. There is Network television shown by multiple sources, antenna, cable, satellite, streaming Internet sources like Hulu, Sling, You Tube, Pluto and more.

You can stream from Amazon Prime, Netflix, Roku and tons of other services and ways to access media. Social media also has tons of video available, it seems like almost every post has a video, and many of them now have commercials. I usually watch until the commercial starts and then I click it off.

How much video is out there? Netflix users watch over 10 billion hours per month according to Livestream! Imagine the amount of snacks, pizza, beverages that go with that many hours of being a couch potato watching videos, wow!

When I was growing up in the Detroit area, we had channel 2,4,7 and 50 that was it. HD television was not invented yet alone color. And the picture as so snowy you thought it was always winter. Yes we really did put aluminum foil up on the rabbit ears antenna. There was no streaming anything, no DVD’s, Blu Ray’s or digital stuff. Binge watching a series was done over many months, not in a weekend. There were no video recorders of any kind, and if you did not watch a show during regular season or summer reruns, the chances of seeing it again were zilch. I literally had all of the prime time shows memorized and I could usually find something I wanted to watch. Today I find that with all of the hundreds of thousands of shows available to watch, from time to time, I cannot seem to find anything that interests me. So sometimes I turn off the TV, listen to the radio, read a book, go for a walk and of course, take a nap!
