Welcome to winter in St Helen

By Bev Vanmeter

I love the snow and the colder days at home with a fire in the fireplace, but the freezing days with the biting wind and trying to drive my car in a straight line can stop. My heart really goes out to the critters not made to be in this type of weather without shelter and food. Bring your pets inside or make sure they have a warm place to go to when Mother Nature decides to put the deep freeze on.

May this New Year bring Friends to your Fireside, Peace to your Pathway, and Good Health throughout the Year.

Last month was the Annual Santa Parade which went off without a hitch. A beautiful parade, tree lighting and Santa with Mrs. Claus made for a magical night. Thank you to every and anyone who helped make this a success again!

We also hosted our Time to Shine Contest in December. The winning outside business this year was The We Care Shop along with honorable mentions to Benjamin Realty, BS Liquor Store, Happy Pups, and Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home.

The best inside business was The Hen House with honorable mention to Benjamin Realty. Best homes were: 1. Jenna Kitchen; 2. Hank & Debbie Kern along with Robert McCarn; and 3. Jeremy, Ralph & Cathy Hickmott. Thank you to everyone who registered for this event!

The medallion hunt will start on Wednesday, Feb. 8 so mark your calendars!

Lake St Helen will be hosting a fishing tournament with NAIFC Feb. 17-19. So far 14 teams are registered. The website is www.naifc.com. There will also be a Kid’s Ice Fishing Seminar Feb. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. The final weigh in will be Sunday, Feb. 20. Activities will be held at CHA.

“…there’s just something beautiful about walking on snow that nobody else has walked on. It makes you believe you’re special.” Carol Rifka Brunt, Tell the Wolves I’m Home.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. at the Chamber Office. Everyone is welcome. Please remember to shop our local stores and thank you!
