“Don’t let this important event pass without taking note of it.”

By Bryan Thompson

My three-year-old grandson pulled the rocking chair in my office next to my desk chair at my computer workstation. He likes to sit next to “Papa.”

I guess if I look at a computer screen and call it work, he must think he is working too by sitting next to me with his I Pad watching Pepa Pig. I try to notice moments like this and remember them. I really feel blessed that he likes sitting next to me. My current stage in life has taught me that all too soon these moments, where he wants to sit next to me at work, will be over.

It causes me to think back and remember the times I spent with my Grandpa. He use to cut my hair, and as he would be working on my hair, he was always saying nice things to me. It was his way of building me up and making me feel special. I miss that, on some days, I miss it an awful lot.

I think, the announcement to the shepherds in the fields by the angels is a moment to notice. Something wonderful had happened and the angels were sent to let them know about it. Don’t let this important event pass without taking note of it.

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.’ “Luke 2:10-11 (NIV)

I think it is a wonderful thing that this event is celebrated and remembered to this very day. The news was so good that it is still shared. The hope, the love, the life we find in Jesus began, with his birth in a small village, in a stable, laying in a manger. And the angels were sent to get some folks to notice what had happened.

I hope you will take a moment or two and reflex on the impact the birth of the Savior has had upon the world and I trust upon your life as well. And, I wish you all a Merry Christmas!
