Community garden a success

To the editor;

The Crawford-Roscommon Conservation District would like to extend a hearty “Thank You” to everyone who helped out with the Community Garden in 2016.

Special thanks to Erine Adams, who coordinated much of the construction at the garden and spent many a summer evening, with her family, watering the vegetables, herbs and shrubs.

In 2016, we grew and gave away potatoes, onions, peas and a variety of peppers, tomatoes and herbs. We hope to grow as much and more in 2017! In addition to the raised beds, the garden features a rain catchment system and compost bins made from wood pallets.

Plans are underway to build ground beds along the fence, create a demonstration pollinator garden and add some fruit producing trees and shrubs.

Be sure to stop by in the summer of 2017 to check out what’s happening, and help yourself to some fresh produce!

The Roscommon Community Garden is located in the Village of Roscommon at the corners of Main and Fourth Streets. Produce grown at the garden is available to the community as it ripens. Please take only what you will eat; and respect the beds that have been rented out for private use.

We can always use your help. If you have an idea or a special variety seed to share, want to rent a garden bed or just want to help out, please contact the Conservation District to learn how you can be involved.
