Teacher joins Houghton Lake Library

HOUGHTON LAKE – We would like to welcome Julie Maxey to the Houghton Lake Library staff

Maxey was hired last week as the MeL and Horizon Logistical Coordinator! She has lived in Houghton Lake for 2.5 years, and has been an active member of our community working at the Northern Center/ Fox Den restaurant for almost a year now. She was born and raised in Flint, but also lived out of state in Texas, Kentuck, and Pennsylvania.

She has a 12-year-old daughter, Alex, who is in 7th grade and attends MVCA. Alex cheers for Houghton Lake during football season on the 7/8 team, and enjoys Cardio drumming at the Northern Center, drawing, listening to music, and of course Video Games. She will be seen at the library often and is always looking for new friends. They have three dogs at home, a border Aussie and two Boston bulldogs.
Prior to this job Julie was a 2nd grade teacher and has also taught 3rd and 4th grades as well. She is an Army veteran of 12 years and served in OIF III in 2005.

Julie is a homeowner and enjoys watching all sports, and while the Lions are her second favorite team, she is first a Green Bay Packers fan.

Some of her favorite books include Kristen Hannah’s Home Front and Nightingale, The Giver by Lois Lowery, Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, Gifts of Imperfections by Brene Brown, and many young adult books that she reads with her daughter.

While her heart was in teaching, the long extended hours took away from her work/life balance. She is excited to start here at the Library so that she can help the people of the community, continue to work with kids.”
