TAWAS– Sunrise Side Animal Rescue has welcomed Rebecca “Becky” Hoerner as Treasurer and Tracey Echler as Secretary to its Board of Directors. President Mark Hall said both women bring valuable experience that will help the organization grow and continue saving more animals in the community.
Tracey Echler has lived in the East Tawas area for more than 26 years and serves as Admissions and Marketing Director at Lakeview Manor and Rehabilitation. A devoted animal lover, she also maintains two Monarch Way Stations to help protect monarch butterflies.
Rebecca Hoerner was raised on a Wisconsin dairy farm and holds a science degree from St. Norbert College. A former research scientist, she previously fostered animals through Capital Area Humane Society before moving to Alabaster Township in 2024.
They join current board members Malinda Slack, Maggie Baretson, Kelly Zube and Mark Hall.
Sunrise Side Animal Rescue is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abandoned animals. In 2025, the group rescued or assisted 126 animals.
